Narrative text

Narrative text is made to entertain, inform, change attitudes, etc, depends on what we want to tell, it is not easy, you have to capture reader’s attention to do this you have to answer these question:

Plot: what is going to happen?

Setting: Where will the story take place? When will the story take place?

Characterization: Who are the main characters? What do they look like?

Structure: How will the story begin? What will be the problem? How is the problem going to be resolved?

Theme: What is the theme / message the writer is attempting to communicate?

As soon as you have your story it is important to keep in mind use an appropriate language, adjectives, adverbs, comparison, metaphors to describe the scene and characters. Past tense is usually used and it is written in first person (I, we) or third person (he, she, it).

StructureA narrative has a number of parts:

Orientation – who, when, where

Complication – event that causes a complication; there may be more than one in a story. Descriptive words are used to give information about characters and events.

Evaluation – reaction by characters to the complication

Resolution – solution to the problem

Coda (optional) – lesson from the story
